Job Description
Managing People, Product, and Safety
People
Management:
-
Manage the day-to-day operations of our 2 stores
-
Ensure efficient, informative, and friendly service from staff.
-
Develop performance standards and conduct evaluations for all staff.
-
Develop and establish workplace culture for customer service, staff maturation and leadership
-
Ensure all checklists are being utilized by staff, holding results to standards.
-
Have a presence On The Floor to stay close to real-time operations. Provide effective communication of operational issues.
-
Verify staff transaction management and reconcile any discrepancies.
Scheduling:
-
Schedule staff according to service needs and weekly labor budget.
-
Arrange for coverage of vacant shifts and fill in as needed.
Training:
-
Develop training materials and systems.
-
Ensure that all staff receive proper training through orientation, new hire training, ongoing training and development plans as established with the General Manager.

Develop and revise standard operating procedures as needed. Ensure that staff is aware of and trained in these procedures.
Staffing:
-
Hire qualified staff within established policies.
-
Take corrective counseling measures and/or disciplinary action as needed for all staff according to established personnel policies.

Terminate employees as necessary, following established personnel policies.
Product
Ordering:
-
Manage supplier relationships to ensure mutually beneficial prices, terms, quality, and delivery and investigate new products/suppliers.
-
Ensure adequate supply of products keeping out-of-stocks and out-of-dates to a minimum.
-
Develop and maintain a clear and comprehensive system for placing orders. Create and execute or oversee orders.

Coordinate returns and credit from suppliers.
Pricing:
-
Review invoices for accuracy, price changes, and product additions. Communicate with the POS Coordinator about new products, discontinued products, and price changes, shelf tags and promotional signage.

Establish prices to achieve margin goals set by the General Manager.

Develop promotional pricing plans and ensure appropriate stock levels, POS pricing, and retail signage for in-store specials.

Conduct periodic price comparisons with competitors.
Inventory Management:
-
Oversee inventory management, including ordering, receiving, unloading, breaking down, stocking, facing, and rotating merchandise with particular attention paid to code dates and sanitation.

Investigate and resolve open purchase orders, transfer orders and negative inventory numbers on a weekly basis
-
Ensure receiving and backroom organization, cleanliness, and safety.

Organize quarterly inventory of retail department stock.
Merchandising:
-
Help build and maintain displays on the sales floor to ensure proper and effective merchandising of the retail sales floor.
-
Plan attractive, effective displays to promote rapid sales of promotional items. Communicate plans for sales displays to ensure timely set up, accurate signage, and coordination with POS price changes.

Periodically review shelf sets; execute category re-sets as needed. Determine new product slotting and shelf-space allocations.

Review weekly sales data; monitor product trends; establish periodic category reviews; add or remove products to enhance overall sales and departmental performance.

Cross-merchandise products between Sweets and Sundries sides.
Safety
-
Work with General Manager to ensure staff training for handling emergencies (shoplifters, robberies, accidents and fire.)

Ensure that work areas and aisles are clean and orderly and meet all Department of Agriculture requirements. Monitor and enforce all food safety regulations.

Ensure that all department equipment (including ordering equipment) is maintained in good working order. Inform the General Manager of equipment acquisition, repair and/or replacement needs.

Ensure customer and staff bathrooms are well-maintained.
Qualifications
-
Must be at least 21 years of age.
-
Have a high school diploma or equivalent, a bachelor’s degree in business management, marketing, retailing, communications, advertising, or related field preferred.
-
1-3 years of retail and/or food service experience; or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
-
Have demonstrated success leading teams with integrity & efficiency, developing staff, meeting deadlines, managing inventory and shrinkage, executing sales promotions, and merchandising.
-
Possess Professional communication skills, both written and verbal, along with attention to detail, analytical, and solution-focused decisiveness.
-
Be comfortable with tablet-based technology and be proficient at MS Office. Experience with social media a plus.

Be flexible to work a schedule that changes based on business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Have and maintain Food Safety certification.
-
Able to lift 60 pounds between 15 inches and 70 inches above the ground
